Big Changes, and a Big Move, for Shuga Records
After 7 years in Minnesota, the most recent 3 here in Northeast Minneapolis, we have decided to move the store back to it’s birthplace, Chicago. We recently had the opportunity to relocate presented to us, and based off the growing needs of our Online Mail Order operations, now is the perfect time for us to expand into a larger market. We are currently still working out the lease for our new space, but stay tuned for more information on where in Chicago we will be located.
Effective on Sunday, December 11th our Retail store on 13th Ave will be closed. We intend to spend the next few months preparing for our move and continuing our Online operations. We understand that’s pretty sudden, and apologize for anyone who is inconvenienced by this. If you have records to sell, or purchases to pick up, we will still be here working in back, so just give us a call at (612) 455-6285 to schedule an appointment.
Starting January 7th, we will be opening the storefront every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month (possibly more) for massive sales to clear out inventory and other items that we don’t want to move to Chicago. This will include TONS of Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s, Electronics, Furniture, you name it. We will publicize the sales with flyers out front, and of course on Craigslist and our Facebook, Twitter, & Tumblr accounts.
We want to thank all the customers, friends, businesses, and musicians that have helped to support us over the years here. We are extremely proud of the events we brought (or helped bring) to Northeast, including Hooliefest, Minneapolis Electronic Music Festival, The Audio Perm Block Party (we see you waggin’), The Northeast Folk Festival, plus hundreds of other musicians and artists during in-store performances, etc.
Obviously our move means that our biggest event, Hooliefest, will not be happening this Art-A-Whirl, but we hope to have it alive and kicking by next summer in Chicago, with the goal of bringing as many Minneapolis acts to showcase in Chicago as possible. Stay in touch, musicians, we can do even bigger things! We hope all the local musicians will continue pressing vinyl. Make sure to get in touch with us when you do, we’ll be happy to keep paying cash up-front for local Minneapolis (vinyl) releases.
Because we have strong feelings for this town, once we are operational in Chicago, we will be happy to continue to offer a 35-50% discount for phone-orders from Minneapolis / Twin Cities customers. Customers in Chicago will also receive 35-50% off any item picked up locally (give us a call when we get in, Chicago!)
We’ll see you at the sales before we move!
